**** these files are a math benchmark program ****
*** it all started many years back in the mag- ***
** azine "Dr Dobb's Journal". There was a guy **
* called "Bill Savage" who wanted to compare *
machines (8080, 6502, z80, 68000, 80286, etc) and
compiler (ibm, hp, aztec, microsoft, borland, etc)
performance. There were 100's of submittals from
the lowly sinclair to the mighty cray. I wanted to
see how well my hardware and software compared. So
I tested turbo pascal 4, 5, 5.5, and 6.0 and also
turbo c 2.0 and stared at the results for a while.
Borland dramatically improved when they released 5.5.
I started using a 'high resolution' timer. The last
thing I tried was 'eagle's sys60 tpu. That is why
I have a sav6hrt and a sav6hrt2.
(the original tests went for speed and accuracy.)
(the high res timer was obtained separate from turbo.)
I would LOVE to see how different brands of compilers
compare today. Is zortech better than microsoft which
is better than borland?
"sav50.exe" took 159.5 seconds on an ibm xt.
took 20.5 seconds on my clone 386sx/16.
took 8.2 seconds on an ami 386/33.
(have fun)
